As you embark on your journey along the “Walk of Peace from the Alps to the Adriatic”, please consider that, in past times, the feeling of harmony you will experience here was not always so alive and clear along the course of the Isonzo/Soča River, which today flows between Slovenia and Italy. The currents of history and of this river are turbulent and unpredictable. The scars left by the First World War on people, landscapes and the world are a testament to this truth. More than 300 monuments are connected by a route stretching more than 500 kilometres: the “Walk of Peace”. Its stages invite us to slow down time and encourage visitors not only to be at rest but also to reflect. These places that were once scarred by the horrors of war have now become memorials and landmarks of remembrance. United by the “Walk of Peace”, they spread a new message of harmony, cooperation and friendship between nations.
