The itinerary that characterises this stage allows the hiker, through a rather demanding route, to experience the beauty of the mountain landscapes without sacrificing contact with the historical background of these lands or the opportunity to visit a series of picturesque and delightful villages. In this setting, a highlight is the Kolovrat Open-Air Museum, excellently preserved and maintained. This cross-border museum, which is for the most part situated on Slovenian territory, traces and illustrates the front line, which not only runs along the mountain ridge but also opens up into a breathtaking panorama that, on a clear day, allows tourists to literally embrace the view from Kanin to Trieste, making this one of the most visited and popular sites on the Walk of Peace.
Author’s recommendation
The Tolmin Museum chronicles the history of the territory and the people of the Isonzo region through the centuries.
Heading towards Dolje, the Kozlov Rob hill is particularly interesting, with the remains of a 12th-century castle that served as an Austro-Hungarian artillery observation post during the First World War.
