The
Ecomuseo delle Acque is a widespread and participatory museum that aims at preserving, communicating and renewing the cultural identity of the communities of the
Gemona area. It consists of an integrated project, with an interdisciplinary character, for the protection and enhancement of a geographically homogeneous territory, characterised by historical, cultural, linguistic, landscape and environmental peculiarities.
The area of reference is the
Campo di Osoppo-Gemona (municipalities of Gemona del Friuli, Artegna, Buja, Majano, Montenars and Osoppo), an alluvial plain located in the centre of Friuli, where the Ecomuseum operates with the aim of combining nature conservation initiatives with those of interpretation and conservation of the cultural heritage, preserving the collective and historical memory of the places and promoting actions oriented to the development of the territory in a logic of environmental, economic and social sustainability.
The headquarters of the Ecomuseum is the
Earthquake LAB, a visitor centre on the earthquake and post-earthquake reconstruction in the historic centre of Gemona. Open all the year round, guided tours and educational activities for schools can be booked there.
The Ecomuseum also supports and develops specific projects, such as the one entitled
Il pane tra Carnia e Gemonese (Bread between Carnia and Gemona area), a physical and virtual journey through the social history of the area, and proposes events such as Note nei roccoli e nelle corti (Notes in the roccoli - bird-catching site - and courtyards), a popular music festival that enlivens the weekends of residents and tourists during the summer, in addition to nature excursions, geological and archaeological visits, geography and landscape interpretation lessons, workshops and exhibitions.
