Barcis: cycling along a magical circular route

Some places offer you countless emotions and amaze you every time you visit them.

Such magical and unique places are just waiting to be discovered also by bike (better if it is a mountain bike or a gravel bike). You can cycle among the rocks of the "Vecchia Strada" (old road) of the Valcellina, feel emotions when admiring the lake from all angles, cycle along roads that cross unspoilt valleys, pass through the old tunnel of the dam and the most adventurous can take some refreshments by tasting excellent local delicacies such as the "pitina", the cured meatball, a typical product of these areas.

Our circular route starts from the locality of Ponte Antoi. After passing through the gate that marks the beginning of the old road along the Valcellina, our adventure begins along a path offering many emotions among crystal clear waters and gorges carved into the rock.
Breathtaking effects are created by light along the route steeped in history and nature that leads us to the fork at the hamlet of Molassa. From here, we will turn left and then cross the trail of the "Sentiero del Dint" (Dint path) that will take us back to our starting point. We are still at the start of our tour and, without stopping, we will go straight on to the "Strada Lungo Lago" (Lakeside road) and after cycling over the dam, we will go through the tunnel that will take us directly to the shores of the enchanted lake.
As D’Avenia said, “Only by bicycle can you surprise things without being seen, as poets do”. And, for one day, we become poets among these magical valleys and let ourselves be enchanted by the unique beauty of this lake.

This quiet path, with some gentle slopes, will take us, after about 3.5 km, to a crossroads. From here we can choose whether to go straight to Località Pentina - Val dei Tass or turn right and, after crossing the wooden bridge suspended over the lake, continue our circular route along the cycle path around the lake and go back to Ponte Antoi.

Where to stay

Federica Canton

Born in 1988, I have always loved sport and outdoor life. I try to spend all the time I can doing any type of activity that allows me to be surrounded by nature. A former competitive swimmer, I now cycle, run, ski and walk in the mountains of my region, also trying my hand at paddling a SUP. And my motto? As long as my heart beats, as long as my legs hold up.
