Family routes with children aged 6 to 9

Approaching cycling safely

The proposals presented here are aimed at families with cyclists aged 6 to 9, who are generally recommended to follow itineraries between 10 and 25 kilometres in length, with flat roads and some small climbs, depending on the age of the children. The options included in this section follow 8 to 20 kilometre routes.

Please note that the Italian Highway Code (Article 182) prescribes specific rules for children under the age of 10:
- side-by-side cycling is permitted outside urban centres, provided that the child under 10 is on the right-hand side of the adult;
- an adult cyclist is allowed to transport a child up to the age of 8, provided that the child is adequately secured with the correct equipment.
