Aquileia, a treasure chest
15Oct2021
An interesting historical anecdote can be revealed concerning the proximity of these two churches, thanks to the well-informed and keen guide who accompanies the visit. From Piazza del Castello di San Giusto you can enjoy a view from above of most of the city, followed by a visit to the interior of the cathedral, which is of great artistic interest. Descending towards Piazza Unità again, the Roman theatre seems to emerge from nowhere in the midst of the buildings, its rounded forms contrasting with the majestic geometry of the Palazzo della Questura (built at the behest of Mussolini in that site as evidence of the continuity between past and present).
In short, this visit can give the inhabitants of Trieste some greater knowledge of their city and offer tourists enamoured of this splendid city with the desire to return to discover it more in depth.
