Splendid Trieste

If you are in Trieste for the day, maybe on a Saturday, it could be the right opportunity to enjoy Splendida Trieste. What is it? “Splendida Trieste” is a guided tour (free with a  FVGCard!) which I was able to enjoy with a friend from Brianza some time ago. It will lead you to discover details of the city that are difficult to find otherwise, but also to find unusual places and corners of the city. It starts from the centre of Piazza Unità d’Italia, the largest square in Europe to lie facing the sea and which seems to breathe with it. We then move on to the marvellous buildings that surround it. Passing through the arcades beneath the town hall you arrive at the steps leading to the church of Santa Maria Maggiore (also called ‘Madonna della Salute’) and the adjacent Waldensian church. An interesting historical anecdote can be revealed concerning the proximity of these two churches, thanks to the well-informed and keen guide who accompanies the visit. From Piazza del Castello di San Giusto you can enjoy a view from above of most of the city, followed by a visit to the interior of the cathedral, which is of great artistic interest. Descending towards Piazza Unità again, the Roman theatre seems to emerge from nowhere in the midst of the buildings, its rounded forms contrasting with the majestic geometry of the Palazzo della Questura (built at the behest of Mussolini in that site as evidence of the continuity between past and present). In short, this visit can give the inhabitants of Trieste some greater knowledge of their city and offer tourists enamoured of this splendid city with the desire to return to discover it more in depth.

Almost thirty years old and Trieste-born, I have a dream of working with children with difficulties. I am curious by nature and always ready to try out new experiences, I am passionate about theatre and musicals above all. I like to look around and participate in the city’s cultural initiatives.
