The Museo dell’Orologeria (Clock Museum) exhibits a collection of clocks that show a
long-standing tradition of clock making, first artisan and then industrial, which has been the most important economic activity in the Val Pesarina for three centuries.
Clocks were
first made in Pesariis back in the 17th century: they are made of wood or wrought iron and are hung in homes or under arcades to mark the different time of agricultural activities. The activity initially developed in the 18th century with the production of bell-tower clocks, and then, in the 20th century, industrial production began of clocks for railway stations.
The exhibition at the museum is organised in chronological order: it includes the first pendulum clocks of the 1700s, bell-tower clocks, flip number clocks, as well as examples of more recent clocks. To complement your visit, you must not miss a
walk along the roads of the hamlet of Pesariis: a real open-air museum, with its 12 monumental clocks.
