Muzzana del Turgnano

The area of Muzzana is located in the low Friulian plain and holds a specific environmental interest. This is both due to the presence of some planitial woods, that represent the remains of an extremely ancient forest and are the backdrop to various events during the year, and due to some specific environmentally sustainable projects.

Of particular interest is the reconversion to organic agriculture of approximately 90 hectares of land dedicated to civic use, a widespread custom in Friuli since the Middle Ages. These agricultural areas were once used by the community to make wood or graze livestock, but they have been gradually divided into smaller plots and sold to individual owners. Instead, in Muzzana, they have survived under collective ownership and are being used today for the cultivation of grain, used to make organic flour.

Furthermore, in this area, a prized variety of white truffle is cultivated, valued by chefs all over the world. Its penetrating and persistent aroma has a strong nuance coming from the wild garlic present in these woods.
