This section of the Walk of Peace, from Bovec to Kobarid, is certainly suitable for trekking enthusiasts. They, adventuring through the mountains and valleys, among gorges and ravines, will discover not only the natural beauty of the area but also these two towns, which have become internationally known for the events that happened there during the First World War. Kobarid, in particular, became symbolic of the Twelfth Battle of the Isonzo, when Austro-German forces broke through the front after years of trench warfare and pushed Italian troops back to the Piave River. Artefacts and the historical dynamics that took place here during the Great War are very well documented and preserved in the museums and ossuaries that have been built in the territory.
Author’s recommendation
Along the way, you can visit the Kozjak Waterfall and the Italian Ossuary.
A visit to the Walk of Peace Visitor Center is highly recommended.

Safety information
Please take extra care when crossing the gorge and the rockfall area between the Golobar hiking area and the Predolina mountain hut (this itinerary is for experienced hikers only).
The footbridge over the Soča River between Kozjak Waterfall and the Italian Charnel House is closed until further notice.
On the way from Kozjak Waterfall, follow the footpath to the Napoleon Bridge and after crossing the bridge, turn right towards the campsite. After 450 metres, turn left onto the footpath leading to the Italian Charnel House. Be extremely careful when crossing the main road!
In winter, it is not advisable to walk the section between the Golobar hiking area and the Predolina mountain hut.
Always check the weather forecast and be informed about the local climate conditions during the winter season.
