Wild herbs of the Karst in bottles

What drives a young mother to buy a piece of land in the Karst in order to cultivate this notoriously difficult land is still a mystery to me. As it stands, Puress.oil is the leading producer of wild herbs of the Karst.

“How on earth did you manage to tame this barren and harsh land?” I ask Martina while she is cradling her second child. "Patience", she says. "When you work this land you definitely need it, that's for sure. There are really bad years, tax requirements ... But you must never lose hope."
It seems that administrative matters are more of a burden than battling against external agents that destroy harvests. I have often noticed this among farmers in the Karst.
They passionately love the land they work, despite everything. After all, you only need to know it well. For example, if you know that the Bora wind can help fight off parasites and that drought makes plants richer in essential oils, you can make a virtue out of necessity. As for the rest, there is experience, and Martina, as a herbalist technician, also has this.

Sage, savoury, fennel, lavender, rosemary and many other essences are on sale in the shop in Banne, in various sizes and as blends and infusions, gourmet salts and beauty products… The most striking of these include attractive glass bottles, which are highly practical for dispensing spices when cooking.

Her herbs are ideal for enriching the typical recipes of the region: add sage to a "putizza bianca" cake with ricotta or to a "strucolo in straza" (hazelnut and cinnamon cake) and even a little honey. Delicious!

Tanja Tuta

As a promoter of the local area and a food photographer, for many years I have been involved in promoting the Karst, my native land. For the Karst and for the courageous people who work on it, I invented the “Dolce Carso” project that is focused on innovating the local confectionery offer in collaboration with farms. Shortly after, under the name of PhotoKras, I began to offer photographic services for tourist and cultural promotion organisations and for local producers in the food sector.
