Journey inside the Earth with an aperitif: Grotta Gigante
The Karst is an arid territory, a stony land that conceals a big heart that deserves to be visited. You only need to go below ground to explore its wonders. The easiest way to do this is to visit the Grotta Gigante, a few kilometres from Trieste. Along the route with its five hundred steps, we can see the amazing sight created by water over thousands of years.
At the entrance to the cave, a science and speleological museum narrates the history of the place. Its many exhibits also show us some of its inhabitants, such as the fearsome cave bear. But don't be afraid. It died about 24,000 years ago.
Engaging guided tours are available, with the opportunity to book a gourmet stop for larger groups. An aperitif with the typical products of the Karst, such as cured meats, cheese and bread, accompanied by excellent wine. And all this takes place in an unusual and spectacular setting to say the least. Tasting the products of the earth within it is something that makes you think and brings humans closer to home: our planet.
