It was great to be able to return and explore the Val Montanaia after the flood of last October. I would like to start by thanking all the people who have contributed to making the road leading to Rifugio Pordenone accessible again and who continue to work to ensure there is a through route to the valley.
After saying goodbye to the very friendly managers of Rifugio Pordenone, we set off with Omar and Andrea to Bivouac Perugini (2060m a.s.l.), at the foot of the iconic Campanile di Val Montanaia, to spend the night there.
The ascent is rather tiring, also because of the gravelly ground along almost the entire path, with the exception of a short stretch of undergrowth. I certainly recommend setting off early in the morning to avoid having to climb back up during the hottest hours of the day. A stream runs parallel along more than half the route, where you can replenish your water supplies. Be careful, however, because once you get to the bivouac, the stream will have disappeared, so it is advisable to fill all your flasks before going up to the top.
At night, it was fairly hot and at about 2am we woke up and opened the door of the bivouac to let some fresh air in. We didn't use our sleeping bags but I recommend taking one just the same in case the bivouac is already full and you have to sleep outdoors.
When you get to the mountain refuge, the beauty and splendour of the place will leave you speechless. The only thing I can say to you is to prepare your backpack and go there as soon as you can.
See you on the next adventure!
