The Friuli Annia DOC extends along the coastal area between Aquileia and the Marano lagoon. It is a more recent denomination, but is already producing some surprisingly fresh wines. The pleasant white wines include Friulano, Pinot Grigio and Verduzzo Friulano, while the best reds are Merlot and Refosco. The proximity of the sea and the sandy soils give the wines an authentic character, scented with sea breezes and rural tradition.
