The Degano Stream

The waters of the Degano stream flow over a series of pools and weirs, where trout usually settle along the banks or just below the falls, following a typical stream pattern, with some rushing stretches of rapids and other small pockets of tranquillity. The bottom of the river is made up of gravel and large boulders, creating waterways that are rich in food.

The sping of the Degano is at Pierabech (1,039 metres above sea level), at the confluence of three watercourses: Fleons, Avanza and Bordaglia. It flows near Forni Avoltri, located in the upper Degano Valley in northwest Carnia. The river is set in the enchanting region of the Carnic Alps, at the foot of Mount Coglians (2,780 metres), the highest peak in the entire area, which includes many of the highest massifs in Friuli Venezia Giulia, considered to be among the most geologically ancient in all of Europe.

Forni Avoltri is known as "the land of water" thanks to the widespread number of streams, lakes and countless springs.

The paradise of the marble trout, surrounded by the Friulian Dolomites and the Carnic Alps.
If you imagine a labyrinth of rivers flowing through wild and uncontaminated valleys, gently giving way to wide waterways at the bottom of the valleys, followed by peaceful lowlands where marble trout, brown trout, hybrids and wild graylings swim freely, you are thinking of the Dolomites and the Carnic Alps.
