Costalunga rural village

Costalunga rural village

A small village located in an isolated position on the hill between the Grivò valley in Faedis and Raschiacco; the buildings are arranged in a line along the terraces, with the long side facing the valley below to the southwest. Costalunga, first mentioned in 1353, was subjected to the jurisdiction of the Cucagna from the 13th century, in the 14th century it passed to the Soffumbergo, to return to the Cucagna in the 15th century. Most of the buildings have been restored, respecting their characteristics of two-story rural buildings with the upper floor often serving as a granary, with a wooden balcony or loggia on stone pillars placed on the south-facing facades, external stairs in wood or stone, stone masonry squared at the corners and door and window frames still in stone. Noteworthy is a building that has the date 1880 engraved on it, with an articulated stone facade facing south, consisting of a loggia entrance hall with two lowered arches and an upper wooden balcony, supported by double stone brackets. An internal staircase distributes the two levels consisting of living rooms on the ground floor and bedrooms on the upper floor. A plaque commemorates the massacre of ten partisans burned alive during Nazi raids during the last war.
