The refugee reception centre of Padriciano

The Centre is a key stage in the "Journeys of Remembrance" itinerary because it represents a place where the topic of the Istrian–Dalmatian Exodus can be learned about and explored. This was the reception centre for exiles from post-war communist Yugoslavia. They were welcomed and housed in wooden huts until the facility was closed in the mid-1970s. The centre, which has retained its original structure from the 1950s, is the only exhibition of its kind in Italy and has been classified as a National Heritage Museum. Today the building and the bathhouses are open to visitors.

The tour of the exhibition includes a variety of artefacts, site plans with several blueprints of the huts that originally occupied the area, didactic panels with films recorded at the site and during the arrival of the refugees from Pula in Venice, archive documents, and a wall covered with faces, names and individual records where information on individual refugees and families was registered in order to provide them with assistance.
