It is possible that the first irrigation channels serving people and agriculture were first excavated at the time of the Roman centurions, to provide water to a fertile but dry land. At the time of the Patriarchs of Aquileia, water was drawn from the Torre stream and channelled to Udine and Cividale, which also allowed the operation of flour mills, sawmills, and mills for ironwork. Over time, the irrigation channels, which are called Rogge, were expanded and more effectively regulated and they still boast a few mills to this day.

From Udine, along the city's cycle tracks, climb slightly northwards, in the direction of Molin Novo. There, you will pedal alongside the irrigation channel, an excursion and a nature trail, in a beautiful setting of countryside and small villages, which is a delight for cyclists. Well signposted, this route winds its way up the Rogge of Udine and Palma all the way to Zompitta. We continue towards the village of Remugnano and then reach Reana del Rojale. From here, the route joins the FVG 1 Alpe Adria cycle track in the village of Morena. With a short diversion northwards, it is possible to enter the small village of Laipacco featuring a Venetian villa. On the way back to Udine, we cross the urban park of the Cormor torrent, the perfect place for a break in the countryside. From here you return to the city centre and the starting point in Udine.
