From the historic center of Grado to Trieste: a fascinating route through lagoon landscapes, nature reserves and the colors of the Trieste Karst.
The itinerary starts from the island of Grado, a tourist resort popular for its beaches, lagoon and ancient old town. It proceeds eastward to reach the Cavanata Valley Nature Reserve. Continue pedaling and you reach Cona Island, which together with the Caneo area is part of the Foce dell'Isonzo Nature Reserve. Continue along the embankment to Marina Julia, a well-known seaside resort, and on to Monfalcone, an active industrial zone linked to the shipyards told at "MuCa," the Shipbuilding Museum. Leaving the city of Monfalcone, the Timavo River marks the entrance into the territory of the Trieste Karst. You pass the Fisherman's Village and continue to Duino, whose castle welcomes its visitors. You continue pedaling in the direction of Trieste, passing the bay of Sistiana and the promontory of Grignano, where Miramare Castle, an admirable gateway to the city of Trieste, rises in all its splendor.
For a less busy route, in Aurisina, you can continue to Trieste along the Sage and Pucino route (P016).
