Cycling route through nature and landscapes along a river that originates in Slovenia, crosses Gorizia, and flows into the Adriatic Sea. A journey of beauty and biodiversity.
The route involves reaching Most Na Soči by train and then starting to cycle towards Nova Gorica-Gorizia. Most Na Soči stands on a lake formed by the confluence of the Idrijca and Isonzo rivers and features an important archaeological site. Proceed south and cross Kanal ob Soči with its medieval Kontrada square, where the Gothic House and Kolarjeva hiša house face. From here, cycle along the Isonzo cycle path up to the new panoramic cycling bridge on the Isonzo at Solkan, close to the Transalpina station. From here, the discovery of the river continues in Italy: the Straccis bridge offers a beautiful view of the river. Pass through the town of Farra d'Isonzo with the Farra pond, a naturalistic point for birdlife, and Gradisca d'Isonzo (one of Italy's most beautiful villages) with its palaces and city parks. After crossing the Isonzo bridge at Sagrado, cycle along the Isonzo and admire the small Slovenian villages until you return to the Transalpina station along the old state border, now part of the city cycle network.
The route can be completed in 2 days, with the option to add the Gorizia - Nova Gorica loop route.
