This is a unique route immersed in the history of Aquileia, with the cycle path skirting the remains of the ancient Roman colony protected by UNESCO.
Food & wine
Discover Aquileia and go back in time thanks to Dolce Aqvileia, a concentrate of flavours used in Ancient Rome such as walnuts, spelt, figs and honey that give life to a cake with a soft and creamy heart, enclosed in a crunchy pastry. Aquileia is also one of the cradles of regional viticulture, where history, land and wines mingle with the souls of our producers who carry on a thousand-year-old tradition!
RECOMMENDED DISH: Sweet Aqvileia
Itinerary
The route uses part of the cycle path that is abandoned to continue through the Aquileia countryside, which was already cultivated in Roman times. It crosses several bridges over the canals, the agricultural locality of Boscat, until reaching the locality of Belvedere where a small patch of the forest that covered a vast area in ancient times remains. In this section the route skirts the Grado Lagoon and the Sanctuary on the island of Barbana dominates the view.
