Crossing the square, reach the Church dedicated to Mary Help of Christians. At the side of Cuore di Pietra, at the entrance to the Botanical Path, the Carbonaie trail begins (sent. CAI 992). The trail climbs steeply and leaves the ski slope bordering Mount Sauc to the right. It continues with short ups and downs through the beech forest, from which the signs of the old charcoal kilns can be seen on either side of the trail.
Continue at the junction the CAI 992 trail marker. Once out of the woods, the view opens up over the Venetian plain. On a clear day it is possible to make out the wonderful Venice, the Euganean Hills and their surroundings as far as the eye can see. Still climbing , you reach the Forcella del Sauc. The trail then continues on a ridge, but never exposed. Views of the Venetian and Friulian plains accompany the hiker to the summit of Mount Cornier. Continue along the CAI 992 trail that crosses CAI 993 at a junction.
You keep to the right and shortly reach Baita Arneri. Descend along the track below the chairlift that skirts the downhill slope until you reach the Casera Capovilla. Then continue on Via Barcis to return to Piazzale della Puppa in Piancavallo.

Don't miss the Carbonaie - clearings of flat land as evidence of the hard work of the coal miners, laborers who worked along these mountains until the 1950s. The tern of turning wood into coal was an important source of income for the inhabitants of the Friulian foothills.
