Past the opening with the iron cross and the stone altar, the trench runs downhill and the rocks of the Volaia Pass here obstruct the views across the lake. After a few metres, you cross a small step and a tunnel opens up on your left.
This is a double Italian position, where a machine-gun and a 42mm gun were placed. Inside, there is another fork after 7-8 metres: the right path leads to the machine-gun pit with a slit, facing the western side of Mt. Coglians and a canyon to north-east; the left path, instead, makes a left and leads to an opening where a cannon and a slit (much bigger than the other one) used to be pointed at the lake.
