National Antarctic Museum

The Antarctic Museum in Trieste aims at letting people discover the scientific aspects of the Antarctic environment.
It focuses on the preservation of marine geological-geophysical finds and, in particular, on the history of Italian and international explorations of the Antarctic. The exhibition of the National Antarctic Museum is divided into three sections:
- the first is dedicated to the historiography of the Antarctic with a collection of precious historical papers coming from all over the world;
- the second provides the history of Antarctic explorations and focuses on the three protagonists of the race to the South Pole at the beginning of the twentieth century (Scott, Shackleton and Amundsen);
- the third illustrates the Italian expeditions, from those at the beginning of the twentieth century to the last ones organized within the Italian National Project of Antarctic Research.

The National Antarctic Museum will let you join the charming adventure of the bold explorers who, at the beginning of the twentieth century, braved the cold, wind and ice to reach the South Pole. In particular, the reconstruction of the stern of the ship "Endurance", which was trapped in the ice of the Weddell Sea, will lead your imagination to Shackleton's legendary expedition of 1914.
