The
Motta Antiquarium and Fossil Exhibition is situated inside the wonderful Villa Pitotti of Povoletto.
The
several archaeological excavation campaigns started in 1997 in the castle of Savorgnano del Torre are documented in the section of the Antiquarium. The rich finds provide evidence of the phases of life of the fortified settlement belonged to the prestigious
Savorgnan feudal family: from the wall construction to the military defence methods, in a period between the 7th and the 15th century.
The section of the Fossil Exhibition displays many
fossil finds coming mainly from the Carnic Alps and from the Julian Pre-Alps, which provide a charming journey through Friuli Venezia Giulia's geological history. Significant is the almost complete specimen of cave bear found in a cave in the surroundings of Forame di Attimis.
The Motta Antiquarium and the Fossil Exhibition are coordinated with the
Medieval Archaeological Museum of Attimis.
