Bordano
Known as the town of butterflies, Bordano is a town of the Gemona area (at 224 metres a.s.l.) famous for the presence of many colourful specimens of butterflies.
In Bordano you will find the Casa delle Farfalle , a museum that in its hothouses includes over 400 species of butterflies, flying free in environments that reproduce their habitats.
Bordano's houses are enriched and made unique by many murals depicting the insects that symbolize this location.
From the town one can go down to (which is also called "Lago dei Tre Comuni" - Lake of the Three Municipalities: Cavazzo Carnico, Bordano and Trasaghis), Friuli's largest natural lake.
Walking along the paths of Monte San Simeone and of Monte Brancot, which dominate the towns of Bordano and Interneppo, you will feel like you have entered a fairytale landscape characterized by wonderful panoramic views from the plain to the sea.
As far as the surrounding summits are concerned, don't miss the opportunity to explore the Monte Festa, reachable from the path of the Sella di Interneppo saddle (Bordano). From the top of Monte Festa you will see the whole Tagliamento valley, which with its many remains of barracks and blockhouses, built around 1910 and used during World War One for the defence of the area, will provide the possibility to experience at least partially some of the sensations of the soldiers of the First World War.
