Description
Let's walk together with the audio guide along the old town and let yourself be seduced by the charm of historical buildings and porticos as well as the poetry of frescoes that seem to tell the history of this centre like pages of a book. Pordenone, known as the painted city, with palaces completely frescoed, is really a trove of hidden delights.
Starting from Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, the former Contrada Maggiore, an elegant street flanked by historical buildings of great artistic and architectural interest, you reach then the St.Marks's Cathedral and the beautiful bell tower. It's built completely in bricks and is considered one of the most beautiful in Italy, due to its Romanesque-Gothic features.
The cathedral hosts three frescoes by the famous painter Giovanni Antonio De Sacchis, called "Il Pordenone", the greatest Friulian painter of the Renaissance period. You can then enter the Museo Civico D'arte to admire his masterpieces.
The route is accessible to the disabled. However, we recommend them to come with a companion to help them with any unevenness that may occur along the route.
