We all need to get away from it all sometimes, and when Trieste gets a little too hectic we hop on a bus number 44 and walk for about 10 minutes (or drive from Trieste for about 25 minutes) to Portopiccolo, Sistiana - a small town built inside a rock along the Adriatic coastline.
It’s best known for its high-end housing and gorgeous yacht galore but it’s also a great place for a stroll and a capo in piazza. Plus, there’s also a not-so-hidden gem called Portopiccolo Spa by Bakel that we have recently rediscovered.
We jumped into the heated, salty experience on a Saturday morning (the three hour ticket costs about 30 euros per person and gives you just enough time to enjoy all the spa has to offer). From the indoor to the outdoor heated swimming pools with an astonishing view of the gulf, from sauna to steam room to the salted & heated swimming pool (oh joy!)
Portopiccolo Spa will offer you just-what-you-needed experience, any day of the week. Chic bathrobe, towels and slippers are included in the spa’s price (and so are the toiletries in the changing/ locker room).
