Why look at animals?

Description

Saturday the 28th at 6 P.M. Trieste Contemporanea is hosting a meeting in Trieste organised by RAVE East Village Artist Residency dedicated to artistic practices that question the relationship with animal otherness. The meeting, divided into two parts, will be introduced by artist and RAVE co-founder Tiziana Pers and will revolve around Igor Grubić's video work Ingresso animali vivi (2023, 14'30"), presented as part of the group exhibition Why Look at Animals? A Case for the Rights of Non-Human Lives curated by Katerina Gregos, currently on display at the EMΣT – National Museum of Contemporary Art in Athens. The event will continue with a dialogue between Grubić and Adriana Rispoli, art historian and curator of Palazzo Diedo-Berggruen Arts & Culture Venice. The conversation will be accompanied by a second unreleased video by the artist, made several years ago, which recounts his profound sensitivity towards the treatment of other species. The second part will be led by Katerina Gregos, director of the Athenian museum, who will present the concept and the other artists featured in the exhibition Why Look at Animals?, the largest and most significant exhibition ever held on anti-speciesism and animal rights in a museum context.
