Description
A modern Caucasian fairy tale.
Traditional Georgian polyphony is performed with extraordinary delicacy by female voices. Their harmonies, as clear as streams flowing down from the Caucasus Mountains, go straight to the heart. A few years ago, three charming Georgian girls ‘exploded’ onto the internet, becoming true international stars.
This modern fairy tale began the day three friends, whilst out for a walk in their village, decided to sing a song together. Tatuli recorded a selfie video and uploaded it online. That video radically changed their lives: within two weeks, it had been viewed by millions of people.
The popularity of the Mandili Trio is growing day by day. Today, the group has over 1.3 million followers on Facebook and more than 1.7 million on YouTube.
The group’s name was not chosen at random. The mandili is a traditional Georgian headdress for women, similar to a scarf. According to custom, women would throw it on the ground to reconcile men in conflict: a symbolic gesture of peace and mediation.
