Do you love opera? Are you completely unfamiliar with it? Either way, you can't miss the brilliant and exhilarating "Opera Locos," a product of the inventiveness of Spanish writers and directors Yllana and Rami Eldar and the outstanding talent of the five protagonists, eclectic opera singers who truly deliver with their voices, with captivating ease and lightness.

The show combines the strong connotations and recognizability of operatic characters (there's always the romantic heroine, the heroic tenor who will die, the villain, a vain dandy who's completely useless in resolving the plot...) with the effects of the performers' "encumbering egos," whose star-making attitudes leave them open to jibes and caricatures. Thus, "Opera Locos" captivates with songs performed with excellent vocal technique and simultaneously entertains to the point of tears, with gags and well-constructed scenes that often overwhelm the audience.

The authors imagine five opera singers summoned to perform a concert of the most famous opera arias, but the result is unsuccessful due to the artists' constant stardom, posturing, pretensions, and tics. Amidst sets and costumes that hint at comics and burlesque, we witness a succession of microplots: the arduous study of "Figaro's Aria," the depression of a former star who can no longer sing "Nessun dorma," the seductive maneuvers of a singer, delivered through famous songs, from Samson and Delilah's "Mon cœur s'ouvre à ta voix" to Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You."
