Awarded by the Polish government for his contribution to promoting the music of Frédéric Chopin, Dang Thai Son is today one of the most refined and influential figures in the international piano world.
Born in Vietnam and trained at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, he rose to global prominence in 1980 by winning First Prize at the 10th International Chopin Competition in Warsaw, becoming the first Asian artist to receive this prestigious award.
Since then, he has performed in over forty countries, appearing in legendary venues such as Lincoln Center in New York, Salle Pleyel in Paris, the Musikverein in Vienna, and Suntory Hall in Tokyo.
A highly sought-after jury member and teacher, he teaches at the Oberlin Conservatory in Ohio and the New England Conservatory in Boston, and is an honorary professor at the conservatories of Beijing and Shanghai.
His discography – including recordings for Deutsche Grammophon, CBS Sony, and the Chopin Institute – demonstrates profound musical intelligence, capturing every nuance of the Romantic repertoire with rigor and intensity.
