Presented by Annalisa Sandri
Max Sabinot, chef of “Al Vitello d’Oro” (Udine),
vs
Masato Fukayama Japanese chef of “Yamaneko” (Udine)
The festival version inspired by the hugely popular TV format will feature three live challenges, pitting a Friulian chef against an Asian chef in the creation of a recipe inspired by Asia but using local ingredients. Three expert judges will offer their technical opinions, but the winner will be decided by the audience. The events will be hosted by Annalisa Sandri, food blogger at Manca il Sale.
Massimiliano Sabinot
Born in 1971, he trained at the Trieste hotel school and at the Astoria under Giorgio Busdon. Since 1991, he has managed the kitchen of historic family restaurant “Al Vitello d’Oro” (founded in 1849). A former Michelin-starred chef, he revolutionised the local seafood tradition with a focus on clean flavors, beautiful colours and lightness, making iconic dishes like the Scampi&Scampi risotto famous.
Masato Fukayama
A former Japanese food critic who arrived in Italy in 2011, he is the uncompromising chef and founder of “Yamaneko,” listed in the Gambero Rosso Sushi Guide. A top-level instructor for professional sushi chefs, he offers a pure “omakase” experience in Udine, along with dishes such as tuna tartare and Yaki sakana, flanked by his wife Yukiko and son Sai in an intimate, family-friendly atmosphere.
