Layers: When Color Stops Obeying, by Claudia Sanna

Description

The exhibition explores a practice in which the artist defines the process but does not fully control its outcome: gravity, absorption, time, and the characteristics of the material all contribute to the work’s formation, transforming stains and irregularities from flaws to be corrected into elements of the artwork. The exhibition presents a selection of works from the research Sanna has been conducting since 2020 in the field of textile art, exploring botanical color extraction and stratification. A central element in Sanna’s imagery is the stain: marks, signs of aging, and deterioration—phenomena normally associated with error or imperfection. In her work, they become forms to be observed and preserved precisely because they emerge outside of a completely controlled design process.
-On October 17 at 11:00 a.m., Claudia Sanna will lead the talk “Fabrics, Memories, and Layers”
