Description
The first day of spring is bathed in a special magic in Trieste, where the music of the past returns to resonate with an extraordinarily contemporary force with the closing event of the twentieth edition of the Wunderkammer Festival. This evening not only marks the closing of an important chapter for the festival, but also fits into the prestigious context of Early Music Day, the European Day of Early Music promoted by REMA, the European Early Music Network, of which the Wunderkammer Festival is a member. It is an anniversary of profound symbolic value, created to rediscover the continent's sonic heritage, coinciding with the equinox and Johann Sebastian Bach's birthday. The festival, which for two decades has explored the fine line between ancient and modern, has chosen, as last year, to entrust this celebratory moment to the excellence of the Early Music Department of the Vicenza Conservatory. Taking the stage will be a high-profile ensemble, recently awarded the National Arts Prize, capable of reviving the splendor of the Italian Baroque through the compositions of masters such as Kapsberger, Monteverdi, Frescobaldi, Rossi, and Cifra. The performance will feature the harmonious interplay of voices and harpsichord, taking the audience on a sensory journey that oscillates between the sacred and the profane, between tenderness and passion. The evening's performers perfectly embody the multidisciplinary and rigorous spirit of contemporary musical research. Alongside the internationally renowned musician and musicologist Marcello Mazzetti, we will find the emerging talent of tenor Luigi Tinto, already established in the specialist scene. The instrumental section will be entrusted to the brilliant Nikita Poretti, a figure who combines the precision of the harpsichord with her studies in naval engineering, and Livio Ticli, a versatile performer and academic whose career spans the harp and historical keyboards. Together, these artists will create a show that promises to illuminate the historic architecture of the Port of Trieste. The event also marks the culmination of the festival dedicated to the "Janas," the fantastical creatures that have guided it through this twentieth edition. Just like these mythical figures, capable of being both benevolent and capricious, the ancient music presented by Wunderkammer reveals itself to be a living and unpredictable entity, capable of transforming a place of work and history like the Lloyd's Tower into a safe haven for the soul. Thanks to the support of local institutions and technical partners, this twentieth edition bids farewell to its audience with a hymn to beauty, confirming that the heritage of past centuries can still be the most authentic soundtrack of our present.
