Topolò - Codariana Valley/Topolove - Koderjana Valley
The narrow and constricted Val Codariana, traversed by a stream of the same name, a right tributary of the Rieca torrent, is characterized by a distinctive landscape, a marvelous combination of geomorphological and vegetational features. The soft sedimentary traces have been carved and shaped by the waters, giving the valley the characteristics of a gorge, with frequent small waterfalls and drops. The woods in the deep valley are dominated by mesophilous broad-leaved trees such as white hornbeam, sycamore, major ash, wild lime, mountain elm, hazel, and white and black alder. The understory flora is very rich and diverse, including fragrant hellebore. The high atmospheric humidity and abundant water provides an ideal habitat for many amphibian species, especially yellow and black salamanders, toads, and frogs. To the west of the village of Topolò, the Zavelincelman stream descends, and near its confluence with the Codarina stream, the ruins of an ancient mill can be seen.
Accessibility: Shortly after the village of Seuza, heading towards Topolò, a forest track branches off and runs along a good part of the right bank of the stream. After crossing the Zavelincelman stream, the track becomes a path that continues along the main watercourse for a long stretch.
