Stunning loop trail that travels through enchanting places: the Fleons Valley, the Sissanis Valley and the beautiful Bordaglia Lake. Excursion of geological, historical and naturalistic interest.
This trail develops in one of the most naturalistically valuable areas of the Carnic Range, within theBordaglia-Fleons wildlife oasis established by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region in 1968, characterized by a rich vegetation with many varieties of flowers and wild orchids, where chamois, roe deer and deer, marmot, capercaillie, black grouse, and many others live undisturbed, over which the golden eagle reigns. Lake Pera is populated by the Alpine Newt and the Black Salamander.
The area also includes some sites of considerable geological interest characterized by the presence of the Bordaglia Valley Line, a bundle of tectonic faults. The area consists of a succession of Paleozoic basement metamorphic rocks and Devonian and Triassic limestones.
During World War I, these places were the subject of bitter fighting between the Royal Italian Army and the Imperial Austungarian Army. The Italian front line ran in the area from Mt. Navagiust to Sella Sissanis and from there to Quota Pascoli and Spina Pesce. Bitter were the clashes in these places and war relics are still visible.
War artifacts at Stretta di Fleons and Quota Pascoli. For additional information, a visit to the Great War Museum in Forni Avoltri is recommended.
At Malga Bordaglia Bassa, from behind the Little Church of Don Bosco it is possible to access (200 m) a machine-gun emplacement dug into the rock, where an inscription is engraved commemorating the passage of Corporal Benito Mussolini in 1916 on this part of the front (beware of uneven path).

Just outside the village of Forni Avoltri (in the direction of Sappada), after crossing the bridge over the Degano river, turn right and follow the road that in 2 km. leads to Pierabech.
Just above the Chiesetta Bianca (former cemetery of the Fallen of the Great War) a clearing is available at the side of the road, where you can park your car.
