The Dolomite Mountaingroup Jôf Fuârt, Madre dei Camosci, Innominata and Cima di Riofreddo form the imposing backdrop that closes to the northern valley where the Refuge Corsi is located. The peak of Jôf Fuârt, one of the most fascinating and panoramic peaks of the western Julian Alps, is also a mountain rich in history: during the First World War it was garrisoned by Austro-Hungarian troops. The normal route of the Jôf Fuârt is an equipped route of medium difficulty, but which requires safety of pace and absence of vertigo, due to the presence of long stretches on easy reels without equipment.
Access
From Tarvisio follow the state road to Passo del Predil until a junction near the lake, then turn right to Sella Nevea. After about 5 km turn right (direction Rifuge Corsi) on a gravel road that leads to the parking lot (1050 meters, 17.5 km from Tarvisio), from which begins the forest road to Casera Grantagar. Alternatively, you can start from Chiusaforte, go up Val Raccolana to Sella Nevea and, after crossing the pass, go down until the end where you turn left on the gravel road that leads to the parking lot (22.5 km). Approach
Take the steep forest road (trail CAI 628) to the meadows of Malga Grantagar (1530 m). Near the cable car of Rifugio Corsi, the trail CAI 628a (the German Path) leads slightly downhill to cross two small streams and then goes up the ridge below the refuge, among the pine vegetation. Traversing to the right and along an equipped ledge, we enter a wide rocky saddle to the CAI 650 trail that brings us to the Rifuge Corsi (1874 m, 1 hour from Casera Grantagar). Alternatively, from Casera Grantagar we continue uphill along the bottom of the valley along the trail CAI 628 in the direction of the Forcella Lavinal dell'Orso, until we meet the trail CAI 625, coming from Sella Nevea. Following the latter to the right, under the overhanging Parete delle Gocce, we reach the base of the walls of the Ago di Villaco, and from here we shortly descend to the refuge (1h 15’ from Casera Grantagar). The ferrata
From Rifuge Corsi we continue for a short distance along the CAI 625 trail to Forcella del Vallone. At the first junction, turn left along the CAI 627 trail and at the next crossing take left again. At the third junction we follow the track on the right marked with red signs until a rocky wall about ten meters high, which we climb (Ist grade). The track continues uphill through detrital-grassy slopes and then bends to the right reaching the base of the wall of the Alta Madri dei Camosci, where the wire ropes begin. After passing an easy but steep wall, we walk through a natural tunnel formed by a large boulder and enter the large saddle that separates the walls of the Jôf Fuârt from those of the Madri dei Camosci. We hike the rocky bottom of the saddle (partly equipped sections) until we cross the Anita Goitan trail, which comes from a ledge of a surmounted wall on the right. We go up through debris and rocks to the left of the saddle until the next junction, where the Anita Goitan trail continues across the travers to the left. We continue uphill to the right until we reach the southeast ridge that joins the Jôf
Fuârt to the Alta Madri dei Camosci. We continue to climb on the left side of the ridge, where we reach the track coming from the Northeast Gorge and the saddle between the two peaks of Jôf Fuârt. The North Peak (2666 m) is the highest, but generally climbers prefer to go up the South Peak (2660 m), where there are a small cross, a white madonna and the summit book (2 hours from the Corsi refuge). Descent
Downhill back to the outward route (3h 30’), passing by the ledges from World War I that cut entirely the southern walls of the Jôf Fuârt massif and crossing the secured, spectacular Anita Goitan Trail (difficulty D).
