Julian Prealps Park

Turning your gaze from the Friulian plain in a north-easterly direction, you come across the Musi chain and the majesty of the Canin peak. It is a fascinating sight, inviting you to discover a world of clear waters, fountains, caves and karst rocks, flora and fauna that have nothing to envy from other famous areas in the Alps.

This is the world of the Julian Pre-Alps Regional Nature Park: established in 1996, it covers the territories of the municipalities of Chiusaforte, Lusevera, Moggio Udinese, Resia, Resiutta and Venzone, for a total area of about 100 km².

The specificity of the area is determined by the contact of three different biogeographical areas, Mediterranean, Illyrian and Alpine, which combine to determine an extraordinary biodiversity.

These areas have become a Park by virtue of their great interest not only in terms of geology, nature and landscape, but also in terms of history and culture, as they contain special features that are difficult to find elsewhere.

The protected area, together with the Alba Valley Nature Reserve, forms the heart of the Julian Alps MaB Unesco Biosphere Reserve.

There are many itineraries that wind through the valleys and over the mountains of the Park.
More than a hundred kilometres of trails, numerous mountain shelters and five information centres offer everyone the opportunity to get to know and experience the protected area.
Above all, it is the thematic trails that allow an in-depth study of the naturalistic and cultural aspects of the area: the Bila Pec and Monte Plauris botanical trails, the Canin geological trail, the Valle Musi Nature Trail or the Fontanone di Goriuda: a spectacular waterfall that emerges from a cave, where you can spend the night like real explorers with excursions organised by the Park.
