Lake Avostanis

Lake Avostanis is an unforgettable fishing experience for lovers of hiking and trekking, in an unspoilt environment, in search of brook trout, which are abundant in this habitat.

Formed by glacial activity, the lake is an authentic jewel in the Carnic Alps, proud of its great history of men and women who endured the events of the First World War on the Italian-Austrian front. A commemorative plaque has been placed in this area: in memory of Maria Plozner, a mountain porter from Carnia, who was shot and killed by an Austrian sniper in 1916.

After parking your vehicle at Malga Pramosio (a place where you can enjoy refreshments before or after your fishing adventure), a pleasant hike of 7 kilometres and an elevation gain of 400 metres along "the Path of Shepherds" (CAI Trail n. 402) leads visitors to a beautiful spot, at an altitude of almost 2000 metres above sea level, where the brook trout eagerly feed on the insects that settle on the water.
