The
Museum of the Territory with the annexed
Environmental Education Centre is housed in a municipal building of
Dogna. It offers the chance to take a fascinating journey through the history of this area since prehistoric times: the museum, in fact, includes also the remains of a Phytosaur fossil found in the Dogna Valley in 1994, an ethnographic room dedicated to rural life and a
historical section on the Great War.
The latter is arranged on the first floor and consists of two rooms filled with
authentic war relics that were found in the area; they provide useful information on Dogna in the early twentieth century through a series of
illustrative panels and displays. A large
model reproducing the
Dogna Valley gives a general picture of the border zone during the Great War and is an excellent way to start or finish the historical routes of this area (
Linea dei Plans,
Jôf di Miezegnot and
Jôf di Somdogna).
Equally interesting is the proposal for a study on the Austrian occupation following the
defeat of Caporetto and on the
exodus of the civilian population.
