Points of interest along this itinerary:

The last route offered by the open-air Museum "The places of the Great War on the Friulian hills" stretches within the Municipalities of Forgaria del Friuli and San Daniele del Friuli; you need a car to cover it, as it is around 40km long.
It offers an opportunity to see some remains of Italian military fortifications as well as traces of a battle fought in the early days of November 1917 to block the advance of the Austro-German army.

You start from Cornino Bridge, which can be reached from Muris on the road heading to Cimano or from road SS 463 by following indications for Forgaria at the roundabout of Tiveriacco (hamlet of Majano). The bridge, consisting of two arches, is interrupted halfway by the so-called Clapat Islet, where the Genoa and Syracuse Brigades resisted the advance of the Bosnian troops. Following the loss of this section of the river, the Italian Supreme Command decided to leave its right banks too and quickly retreat to the Piave.

Continuing towards the village centre, you can make a short detour (about one kilometre) on the right towards Peonis, and reach the upper lake of Cornino. Here, you can still see the Cornino-Trasaghis military road with the date"1916" inscribed, which has remained intact for almost a century. From here, head back to Forgaria and the hamlet of San Rocco, whose tiny church, converted into an Italian command post, was destroyed in November 1917. The climb continues uphill along the slopes of the Carnic Pre-Alps and up to the Plateau of Mt. Prat, a fascinating natural setting from where you can enjoy wonderful views of the Tagliamento and the Friulian Hills . The road narrows at this point but is always smooth. It continues along the Tochel Valley and the Cuel di Forchia, from where you can take a trail heading to the summit of Mt. Cuar, home to an observation post and a mule track used during the Great War.

Continuing to San Daniele del Friuli nearby, a town internationally renowned for its delicious ham, you may want to visit the Exhibition Hall of Historical Military Relics, which collects several objects dating back to the Great War, and also the Castle area, where the Italian troops attempted to resist the advance of the Austro-German forces on 30th October 1917.
