Taipana is a mountain town located among the first ridges of the Julian Prealps, in the basin of the Cornappo stream, and is nestled between Mount Namlen and Gran Monte. Once part of the Patriarchate of Aquileia, later administered by the Austro-Hungarian jurisdiction and subsequently by the Republic of Venice, Taipana developed during the Napoleonic era when it was governed and managed as a "vicinia," meaning through an assembly of heads of households, as was the case in the Natisone Valley area. The vast, almost untouched municipal territory offers a wide range of attractions, such as the rural villages of Upper and Lower, Debellis, Platischis, and Prossenicco, as well as numerous places of natural and scenic interest, such as the Certnja waterfall, the springs of the Cornappo and Rio Bianco rivers, the Gorgons stream valley, or the broadleaf forest around Capra Bridge, where many plant species can be found, including rare wild orchids. All these locations are connected by perfectly accessible nature trails and dirt paths, making them ideal for hikes and geological studies, with numerous routes for Mountain Bike and E-bike.
