Faedis

Faedis derives from the Latin fagetum (beech forest) and is a territory mentioned in documents dating back to the year 1000. The ancient medieval charm of this lowland area is easily accessible by walking through the marked trails in the woods to the castles of Zucco and Cuccagna and the 14th-century church of the Madonna in Castello. Other small churches are also important, such as the Church of the Apostles Saints John and Paul or Saint Helena, but equally important and evocative are the villages where buildings of the rural tradition are still visible, such as Costalunga and Stremiz, or the Porzùs huts, site of the partisan massacre in 1945, which have become a national monument. From here, it's also easy to reach scenic points and valuable natural spots like the twin waterfalls of Costapina and the Marcijat stream, or Mount San Lorenzo. Today, the area of the municipality is also a renowned wine-growing region (Refosco sub-area) with many establishments/wineries offering tours and tastings.
