Cividale del Friuli

Cividale del Friuli is a city rich in Roman and early medieval art. The city preserves precious evidence of its past and is the starting point of the UNESCO itinerary "The Lombards in Italy, Places of Power (568-774 AD)," dedicated to the legacy of these people, who made Cividale the first seat of their duchy in Italy. The city offers numerous important sites, such as the National Archaeological Museum, the Christian Museum and the Cathedral Treasury, the Lombard Temple, the Museum of the Great War, and the CIPS, dedicated to puppetry and its greatest interpreter, Cividale native Vittorio Podrecca. Other notable locations include the Palazzo de Nordis, home to a contemporary art collection, and Canussio Castle, but walking through the narrow streets of the city you can also find significant landmarks like the Devil's Bridge, the House of Paul the Deacon, the Church of Saints Peter and Blaise, and the De Claricini Gaspardis Palace in Foro Giulio Cesare. The municipality is also the "heart" of the DOC Eastern Hills of Friuli wine region.
