Rural Village Berda/Bardo

The toponym "Bardo" derives from the Slovenian "brdo" (hill), while "Codermaz" comes from a typical local surname (Kodermaci), which is difficult to interpret. The villages are located along the municipal road that branches off from the valley floor, skirting the Judrio River.
Berda (450 meters above sea level) consists of a small cluster of houses and cottages perched on the mountain ridge and grouped into units arranged along the contours of the terrain. The village has preserved the original characteristics of the popular architecture of Friulan Slavia and constitutes the only example of 20th-century restoration carried out in a homogeneous and unitary way.
At the beginning of the cluster is the oldest building complex, dating back to the 17th-18th centuries, consisting of two houses and some cottages built directly on the outcropping rock. The two houses are arranged with an external stone staircase and wooden balconies. The house to the east is characterized by the unusual pediment of the main façade.
A little further along the stone path is a complex formed by the addition of several buildings intended for agricultural use. Interesting is the southern building, with a steeply sloping roof originally covered in straw, and dry-stone masonry with large stone elements. Continuing on, one encounters a building consisting of two residential units around a small courtyard, introduced by a gate with a wooden architrave topped by a small roof.
