Sunsets in Triest

Lately, sunset in Trieste is becoming a social occasion, a moment of art and culture, a meeting place. But, after all, what is a sunset if not a work of art of nature?

As the evening draws near, when the sky is clear, ladies of all ages dress up and go down into the city to admire the spectacular sunset, which is the same every day yet always different. Men rush out of work and head, armed with a huge camera or just their mobile phone, to get the best pictures and shots. Youngsters leave their studies and rush to immortalise the sun that is going to sleep. There are various favourite gathering places.
Barcola and its harbour, where the sun, between one flagpole and another, always displays its spectacular colours.

But along the entire waterfront of Barcola, you can find special views, always different and unique. Those who so desire can take the Coastal Route to see Sistiana, Duino and even the Grado lagoon.

Or you can take the  Strada Napoleonica, to embrace the entire gulf as far as the coasts of Istria.

From the Obelisco of Opicina to take photos of our entire city.

But it is along the shores of Trieste that sunsets become spectacular: here, the crowds anxiously gather waiting for the inevitable event; here ladies, industrious people, businessmen and young madcaps meet to await the “moment”.
Here the sunset becomes a wonderful sight within a wonderful sight, here things become competitive, a race to see who will post the most beautiful sunset, here the crowd grows evening after evening… filling the Molo Audace in all different ways

Where to stay

Lorenza Cesaratto

I was born in Trieste, some years ago. Not too many but I would say the right number.
I love nature, the sea, the mountains, travelling, films, art, theatrical performances, and telling stories...
So, let's use images and words to tell you about this beautiful region of ours, because being here is already a little like being on holiday.
