Church of San Nicolò Vescovo

[19th century]

The church is the parish church of Bueriis: it was built during the 18th century on the hill overlooking the village. Its current appearance derives from the interventions carried out between 1897 and 1899.
The façade is characterized by an arched pediment with a dedicatory plaque and, in the attic, there is a bifora (a two-light window) topped with an arched cornice. On the sides, there is a pointed arch niche with a statue, and in the attic section, there is a circular marble decoration. The bell tower is located at the rear of the church, in the junction between the apse and the presbytery.
The design and construction are attributed to Angelo Noacco (1832-1909), who was previously a parish priest in Cassacco and worked hard to improve the life of the village. He established a cooperative bakery, a social dairy, a livestock insurance company and a rural bank (1896). He dedicated himself to his architectural activities in his full maturity after having studied Christian architecture. He undertook numerous consultations, projects, and drawings for churches, bell towers, chapels, and altars throughout Friuli. From 1862, he was involved in the construction of the parish church of Rizzolo, completed based on a design by Andrea Scala. In addition to the church of San Nicola in Bueriis, he designed the parish church of Cassacco, following the historical eclecticism spread in the region by Andrea Scala, Domenico Rupolo, and Girolamo D’Aronco.
