In the saddle from Udine for a cycling trip through the most varied and evocative landscapes of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
Itinerary
The route is a loop that winds along the vine-covered hills from which the Colli Orientali and Collio DOC wines are born, and leads to Cividale del Friuli, a UNESCO site and gateway to the splendid Natisone valleys. Here we pedal uphill until we reach the ridge of Mount Colovrat, famous for the battle of Caporetto during the Great War. The altimetrically most difficult stage will be in the Torre Valleys until reaching Gemona del Friuli. After crossing the Tagliamento river, we discover the charm of the Arzino valley before making a gastronomic stop in San Daniele and then returning to Udine.
Food&Wine
The holiday offers a unique food and wine experience typical of the borderlands. Don't miss frico, a traditional dish made with cheese and potatoes, stak (mashed potatoes and beans) and gubana, a dessert from the Natisone Valleys. In San Daniele we recommend the renowned raw ham and in Val D'arzino the Asìno cheese.
The loop route is covered in four to six days with a total elevation gain of 7,750 metres over 360 km. Recommended for those who enjoy a challenge.
