Starting from Palmanova, it continues along the Alpe Adria FVG 1 cycle track to Santa Maria La Longa. In World War I it was used as the site of warehouses and encampments of retired military units: during that period it also hosted the great poet Giuseppe Ungaretti, who wrote some of his most famous poems here (a travelling exhibition is organized in the town). From Santa Maria La Longa we head to Clauiano, one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy for its 18th-century houses made of stones and face brick, which are masterfully and skilfully combined. We descend south through the countryside to Aiello del Friuli, known as the town of sundials because of the large number of them that have been drawn on many of the town's buildings and homes. Passing through Joannis, an ancient town of early medieval origin, and Privano, we return to Palmanova along the FVG 1 cycle track.
